How
It Works
The
One Man Stand (OMS) is a portable, folding, shop support stand
for handling moving wood, material, or stock that is having
operations done to it using power tools such as saws, millers,
planers, jointers, etc. The OMS can be used for in-feed, out-feed,
and side support as shown on the Main
web site page. The OMS is basically a polymer-covered
ramp that will guide a sagging work piece up as much as 3-1/2"
to a settable height. The work piece then glides freely in
any direction.
The
polymer is high-density polyethylene that is UV resistant,
tougher than nylon, slippery like Teflon, and self-lubricating.
The One Man Stand is superior to cylindrical and ball roller
stands commonly used for wood working to handle long, flexible,
or awkward work pieces on a table saw. Pinching, binding,
kickbacks, and bowing are reduced with OMS. Safety is enhanced
even more due to the ease of stand positioning and the stability
of a wide base. Sturdy steel construction offers durability,
while the absence of moving parts reduces maintenance and
sticking.

PROPER
STAND OPERATION
If
the extension tube does not fit the head socket closely,
turn the extension tube 90°
- A stand at the
in feed and a stand at the out feed are recommended to keep
attention at the saw for safety.
- Do not exceed
the 150-LB load rating. Dropping loads on the stand will
result in impact loads that are higher than the actual weight.
This can produce unintended over loading.
- Stand height
may be adjusted from 23-1/2” to 42”. Adjust
stand to equipment table height; or mark the extension at
heights you often use. Firmly tighten adjusting screw.
- Open legs fully when in use. Tighten leg nuts until steel
plate starts to bend (15-20 LB to open as shown above).
- Center the workpiece
on the stand as close as possible. If workpiece is wide,
2 stands may be nested as shown. Place legs of 1 stand
inside legs of other stand. Position heads side-by-side.
A stand may be used as a table extension, side support,
or anywhere as needed.
- Set the stand
distance from the saw at slightly more than half the board
length to start. This allows the board to rest on the saw
after the cut. Move the stand closer if required.
-
When
lifting the stand by the head, lift from the front or the
sides of the head with one hand.
- Most of the
work piece drag will come from the saw. Maintain the saw
surface and fence to reduce drag. Remove grit and oxidation.
- If the ramp
angle must be increased or decreased, place one hand at
top center of head, and pull up or push down each lower
corner of the ramp.
- Always place
the stand so it does not rock, and is near level with the
saw. To stop rocking, adjust the stand by tilting one
leg as shown at the right. Adjust extension tube high.
Stand at the side of the stand. Step on the black leg cap
that is high off the surface. Place 1 hand at the adjusting
screw and 1 hand at the extension top. Pull in at the screw
and push out at the top until all 4 caps touch the surface.
- This stand
must not be used for any purpose other than supporting flat
construction material under 150 LB.
Polidea Co. is not liable for any damage resulting from
improper use of the OMS portable support stand.
TRANSPORTATION AND STORAGE
FOLDING
THE STAND
With the stand set up for operation, remove the head.
- Loosen the adjusting
screw, and let the extension drop to the ground. Snug the
adjusting screw.
- Flip the stand
over so the extension is on the ground, legs are up.
- Rest the black
of the head on a leg so the leg is near the head curve.
- Close the stand
slowly by pushing the 2 legs together (shown upright).
NEVER PUT FINGERS BETWEEN LEGS WHILE CLOSING
- Reverse procedure
for stand set up. Hold head with thumb while opening.
- Carry the stand
by holding the adjusting screw.
STAND
NESTING FOR STORAGE
- Both stands
must be folded the same, with the curved part of the head
toward the adjusting screw as shown.
- With both stands
sitting on the ground as shown, slide the legs of one stand
in between the legs of other stand with screws facing away
from each other as shown. The legs must be spread slightly.
- Wrap the bungie
around the stand and secure each hook to the opposite edges
of one head as shown.
